Trippin'

Trippin is a 2005 MTV environmental documentary television series hosted by Cameron Diaz. It also features many other celebrities, including Drew Barrymore, Redman, Jessica Alba, Eva Mendes, Mark Hoppus and Justin Timberlake. On the show, said celebrities visit various ecological locales around the world, in particular underprivileged areas of the world.

Criticism

George Ouzounian criticised the show in a May 2005 article on his website, The Best Page in the Universe, stamping it hypocritical and patronising. As Ouzounian points out, the show promotes the awareness of frugality in the third world through the visiting of high-profile, wealthy Westerners.

The show has also attracted criticism from the Cybercast News Service for reasons similar to those outlined by Ouzounian. CNS claims Trippin's hosts overlook key socioeconomic issues existing in the countries visited, including Bhutan, and make such serious matters seem trivial in comparison to the supposed advantages of frugal living (e.g. actress Drew Barrymore was enthralled at Bhutan's lack of sanitary services).

Trippin

Trippin is a Malaysian infotainment programme produced by 8TV, which sees local celebrities or (beginning season two) ordinary citizens being taken to various tourist attractions in the country, and involved in recreational activities, ranging from appreciation of arts and culture to extreme sports.

The programme has concluded its second season, which was hosted by Janice Yap. Rina Omar was the host of the show's first season.

Season One was hosted by Rina Omar, who is also currently one of the 8TV Quickie hosts.

Season 2

Season Two, hosted by Janice Yap who took over from Rina, has DiGi Prepaid Fu-Yoh! as the main sponsor, and in some episodes, subscribers of this service appear to participate in the programme by winning a preceding contest.

Trippin' (Push Push song)

"Trippin'" was the first single from New Zealand glam metal band Push Push. The song was also recorded around the same time by Auckland punk stalwarts "The Warners" (1984-1995) and appeared on the Crazy Horses single released by Wildside records.

Music video

The music video is a performance video directed by Chris Mauger. It won Best Music Video at the 1992 RIANZ New Zealand Music Awards.

Charting

The single was number one in New Zealand for six weeks and the only local song to top the New Zealand charts in 1991.

Cover versions

In 1999, New Zealand electronic act Baitercell released a techno version featuring American-Australian performer Miz Ima Starr. The song later appeared in the film I'll Make You Happy and its soundtrack CD which was released by Flying Nun Records.
